Every few years the technology industry crowns a new platform shift, and most fade. What separates a genuine shift from a fad is not the demo but the substrate: does it lower a fundamental cost, or merely repackage one? The printing press, the transistor, and the internet each collapsed the cost of copying, computing, or communicating.

The rest is noise – useful to track, but rarely the thing that changes how the world works.
